Adolescent Mental Health Trainers, for Rajasthan, PRESENCE Project

Sangath is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation headquartered in Goa, with hubs in New Delhi, Bhopal and Pune. Sangath in celebrating its 27th Year and has experience conducting high quality community-based research in child development, adolescent and youth health, adult mental health, ageing and chronic diseases and addictions as well as in health equality. Sangath has won the prestigious MacArthur Foundation International Prize for Creative and Effective Institutions (2008), the WHO Public HealthChampion Award (2016). and was recognized as India’s 4th leading public health research institute by Research Councils UK (2015).

The Addictions and related-Research Group based in Sangath is focused on building evidence for affordable and effective interventions for substance-use related disorders, to ultimately inform scale up through sustainable health systems. As a result of our success in designing effective and low-cost models of care for people with alcohol use disorders, Sangath has been able to contribute to improving the quality of addiction related care, not just in Goa, but in other parts of the country, and globally.

The Addictions and related-Research Group at Sangath, Goa is inviting application for 6 Adolescent Mental Health Trainers at Rajasthan for its PRESENCE project.

About the project

The PRESENCE program (Protection, pRomotion, and prEvention of mental health amongSt youth through Early iNtervention and Capacity Enhancement) is focused on strengthening the mental health and resilience of adolescents.

By working with schools across 3 districts of Rajasthan (Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar), the project will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to (i) implement a universal resilience-building intervention, equipping students with the ability to face adversities in their lives and cope during difficult situations (ii) a sports-based initiative to teach life skills and prevent substance abuse, combining physical activity with mental health education to promote holistic well-being and (iii) a mental health promotion workshops.

Through this approach, PRESENCE seeks to promote adolescent mental health.

Job Profile:

  • To conduct workshops in schools on resilience.
  • To maintain adequate documentation, conduct assessments and capture feedback.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with the adolescents to understand their needs
  • To coordinate with school authorities and other stakeholders.
  • To assist psychologists in trainings of teachers and parents on adolescent mental health issues.
  • To plan and assist in mental health workshops and public engagement activities.
  • To do any other activity as required by the district coordinator and/or the project lead.

Before applying, candidates must consider the eligibility criteria:

Essential Criteria

  • Post graduate degree in Psychology/Humanities/Social Work/Mass Communication
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in the above-mentioned fields and having relevant work experience of working with adolescents will also be considered.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across community settings for fieldwork in rural or semirural areas
  • Willingness to live and work full-time in the project implementation setting for significant periods of time
  • Written and verbal fluency in Hindi and English
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Candidate must be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications (MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
  • Minimum Commitment of 1 year

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with adolescents
  • Experience in organizing and conducting training/workshops
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use designing software such as Canva

Salary: ₹ 25,000-30,000 based on experience
