Project Brief:
Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) in collaboration with Duke University’s Center for Policy Impact in Global Health with a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York is conducting a study on reimagining and reorienting the current multilateral health system. The specific focus is on pandemic preparedness and response (PPR), and the findings will be relevant to generating other global public goods for health, such as tackling antimicrobial resistance. The project will have two main phases – the “diagnosis” phase, to explore the barriers impeding multilateral provision of GPGs for health by conducting key informant interviews interviews with multiple stakeholders including representatives from multi-lateral health agencies, ministry of health and family welfare, officials from the directorate of health and family welfare, officials from ministry of finance, non-governmental organizations and private sector players and the “solutions” phase, to develop and “road test” realistic options that reimagine multilateralism to deliver on a GPGs for health agenda. The solutions phase of the work will rely heavily on policy dialogues and game-theory methods to identify previously underexplored multilateral opportunities.
